Trading in Lines for Shapes

This entire past semester I've been working to find how my brain works when creating images and what realm or medium I work best in. What I've discovered is that I work best through the use of shape and subtraction. For a period of time all of my images were made and sketched in cut paper. Then I would bring the cut paper images into illustrator. This naturally took a lot of time. Time I didn't have this past semester. So I started to draw with shape in illustrator like I did with scissors and cut paper. Starting with a large shape and a value structure in mind and then adding other shapes and cutting away with line. The characters below are example of my first try at this. I hope you like them!

This last image here was a card a I made and I actually sketched out the composition and the trailer in cut paper first. Then I brought it into illustrator.

I'll take it to go

So it's been a really long time since I've posted, so long that my friend told me my blog looked like a sports blog. Thus an update is long since overdue, luckily I have lots and lots to post so expect several new posts including this one in the coming days.

The images here are just one passage from a storyboard I made for my Image Development class. It's naturally about my rolly polly pug wigs in his younger more agile days. It was a great challenge in understanding beats and learning how to pace a scene and I had a lot of fun doing it. Let me know what you guys think thanks!
